I think this quotes shows some of what Ernest Hemmingway thinks due to his own personal experiences. He's trying to help others realize this and it is a powerful message. It's saying that your don't really live your life unless you are living it like a bull fighter. In other words life is full of risks that sometimes lead to great experiences. I think this shows that he regrets not doing so things while he had the chance.
